"I was on this camping trip with my family, I think it was ... in 2019. We were camping in Farragut State Park. And it's this big campground: paved roads, lots of campsites, restrooms, whatever. I get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. It's like a three minute walk, I hear some animals fighting in the creek, I'm freaked out because it's dark. Anyways, I use the bathroom, and when I come out, there's this really loud, droning, what sounds like a fog horn coming from everywhere. I thought, 'maybe it's a train', but it didn't sound like a train, and it didn't stop the whole walk back to camp. I didn't wake my mom up because I figured I was being silly and it's just a train or something. But it wasn't like anything I had ever heard before."
Statement taken 20 April 2024
After an in-depth investigation, our agents have found that this sound was most likely caused by a train. There is a track located roughly 5.5 miles away. However, the evidence is inconclusive.
The authenticity of many video recordings of skyquakes are questioned. Many people have conducted "social experiments" where they play sound from their laptops and record the sky. After letting their video go viral, the creator stated, "I made the video by taking out my iPhone and merely video recorded my balcony view while holding my laptop right behind it, while my laptop played ... in the background. Took less than a minute to do this. I made it because I was surprised at the attention [these videos were] getting, and the friends on my Facebook friends list were voicing their fear, which I think is wrong". These are often just as convincing as others that have not been disproven.
